What acupuncture is and how it is practiced?
Acupuncture is performed by inserting very thin needles in specific points of the body. At times it might be necessary to stimulate by applying heat (moxa-therapy) or by massaging the points or the cannels (Chinese massage).
Acupuncture therapy aims at rebalancing the patient’s energetic potential. In fact, when acupuncture stimulates specific points it harmonizes the flow of energy upon which depends health. The western world can only accept as proof of the working of a system the possibility of explaining it according to a precise neurophysioogic model or according to specific parameters. However, in my opinion, the proof of acupuncture's workings rests on the innumerable years of experience of the Chinese people as well as on the vast amount of research available, which has been able to confirm its positive effects on health.
The first appointment with an acupuncturist
The first acupuncture visit is preceded by a thorough clinical interview, which helps in assessing the causes underling the pathology. In this way it is possible to decide the correct treatment’s procedure, which aims at healing the patient as a whole, rather then just addressing the symptoms.
